Outfit inspiration - Keeping it neutral
It's so easy for me to share outfit inspiration with you, because my clients have impeccable style and taste! Take for example the Gros family. I went into their Nashville home shortly after they welcomed their second daughter to do a family portrait session. They have the cutest little cottage ever! Every corner was perfectly styled. Austin and Amanda are the masters of working with neutrals.
Neutral outfits for family sessions
Let's take a closer look at their ensemble to see what makes it so awesome. First, everyone is in some shade of cream or tan. They've kept it casual with blue jeans and comfy leggings, and their accessories are kept to a minimum. Since this session took place in their home, there was no need for shoes! While it may seem that layering different shades of cream and tan could get boring, they kept it interesting by having subtle changes in the texture of their clothes. Take for example the outfit of their oldest daughter. Her leggings have a chunky stripe texture, and her shirt has tiny polka dots.
Black and white lifestyle family session
Of course, for a session like this, it's fun to break out some black and white film. If that is the case, then outfit colors matter even less. Instead, the photos become all about the connection and the interplay of light and shadow. I just particular session, I used a type of film that has more grain. Although grain is something I have tried to avoid in the past, and this scenario the grain brings an artistic feel to the images and adds to the story of this family.
